Suffragan Bishop Melvin A. Boyd Sr., is the husband of one wife, (a beautiful lady by the name Angela), to whom he has been married since August 29, 1987. They have four children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, all of which have been baptized in Jesus’ name and have all received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. Pastor Boyd is the oldest of 7 children (4 boys and 3 girls, all of which are saved) that were born to the late Bishop Melvin Boyd and the late Lady Carol Boyd of Nashville, TN. He was saved at an early age (before he reached his teens). He served on the Jr. Usher Board, and sang in the Jr. Choir and the Sr. Choir. He also helped to clean the church, cut the grass, and drove the church van on church trips as well as in the city for regular services. He began preaching in 1981.
He served for several years as the youth president of his local church (Grace Apostolic Church in Nashville, TN under his father The Late Bishop Melvin Boyd). He taught Sunday School for several years up until he went into the pastorate ministry. He started in the pastorate ministry in 1991 in Hopkinsville, KY, and continued there until the end of 2003. He became the pastor of Greater Mt. Zion Apostolic Church in New Albany, IN at the end of 2003 and has been there up until this present time. He is blessed to have his wife, sons, and daughters, actively working with him in the church. He was appointed to the office of District Elder under former Diocesan, Bishop Alphonso Scott. He was appointed to the office of Suffragan Bishop in March of 2015, and consecrated to the office of Suffragan Bishop in June of 2015 (both in the First Apostolic Council of KY & TN) by and under Bishop Sherman L. Merritt, Sr., Diocesan.
He has served as the Secretary of the FAC Executive Board for a number of years, and he has also served as the General Assistant Treasurer of the FAC of KY & TN from 2004 to 2007. He has served as a 3 term Council Chairman of the First Apostolic Council of Kentucky & Tennessee (The 11th Episcopal District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc.) from 2008 to 2018 (a total of 11 years). He served as a committee member of the PAW Charities Committee, under former Presiding Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, and continues to serve on this committee under the current Presiding Bishop Theodore Brooks. He contributes the majority of his knowledge of scripture to the foundational teachings that he received from his father. He has sought to build upon that foundation, being ever so careful how he builds thereon.
